First Sighting of the Derwent

£795.00

15 Limited Edition Fine Art Giclée Prints.

A1 unframed (841mm x 594mm).

Adapted from an original charcoal drawing, this design is inspired by Part I of William Wordsworth’s 1799 version of The Prelude. Depicting a mother and child on the banks of the River Derwent, the image traces the poet’s first awakening to nature’s guiding presence.

Wordsworth’s own lines shape the spirit of the work, and are included on the reverse side of the postcard:

For this didst thou

O Derwent, travelling over the green plains

Near my "sweet birth-place,” didst thou beauteous Stream

Make ceaseless music through the night and day,

Which with its steady cadence tempering

Our human waywardness, composed my thoughts

To more than infant softness, giving me,

Among the fretful dwellings of mankind,

A knowledge, a dim earnest of the calm

Which Nature breathes among the fields and groves?

Printed on a 310gsm Hahnemühle German Etching archival cardstock, First Sighting of the Derwent offers collectors the opportunity to own 1 of only 15 fine art quality prints of this design in A1 size.
